John Hynes enlisted at Dublin 1 February 1889 aged 18
years 1 month. Born Dublin. Occupation labourer. Invalided
from South Africa. Re-engaged 17 February 1902 to
complete 21 years service. Appointed Sergeant Instructor
of Musketry 1 March 1902 and Colour Sergeant 1 June 1904.
Discharged at Aldershot 31 January 1910. Conduct
exemplary. “Thoroughly sober & reliable”. Re-enlisted at
Dublin 12 October 1914. Temporarily transferred to Labour
Corps July-September 1917. Demobilised at Dublin 12
January 1920. Served in 1st Battalion in South Africa and
3rd and 6th Battalions in WW1.
