Sidney George Comden was born
on June 10th, 1865 in Sandown
on the Isle of Wight. When he
joined the service in April 1885
he was described as 5' 9" with
a dark complexion. He served
aboard HMS Powerful for 3
years and was awarded the
LSGC on Aug 30, 1900.

In the 1881 census he is shown
as a 14 year old living with his
mother and 3 sisters and a
brother in Hampshire. He is the
youngest child. In the 1901
census he gives his age as 33
and is shown as living with his
25 yr old wife Alice at 91 New
Rd in Portsmouth
